Jean Jeremie
Jean Jeremie joined Unique People Services in June 2010 and was elected as chair of the Board of Directors in February 2011. Jean is a Certified Public Accountant and has more than 20 years experience working in the nonprofit sector. He began his professional career at a regional New York City-based public accounting firm with a practice specializing in service to nonprofits and healthcare providers and has worked almost exclusively with nonprofit organizations since inception. During his time in public accounting, Jean’s nonprofit advisory engagements focused on strengthening operational, administrative, and financial controls and processes, including but not limited to, cash flow management, financing and line of credit applications, budget development for proposal submissions, and the management of data systems integration. Jean has designed processes to capture and monitor client service data, integrated contractual objectives data with performance benchmarks and developed compliance monitoring tools for use in program service delivery.
After public accounting, he transitioned to private industry by joining the accounting staff of the American Museum of Natural History where he was primarily responsible for managing the financial records of the Hayden Planetarium and the Museum’s endowment fund. His tenure at the Museum was followed by senior management positions at the Fortune Society, New York City Mission Society, The Fund for the City of New York and, currently, The Fresh Air Fund, where he is the Chief Financial Officer.
In addition to Unique People Services, Jean is actively involved in the community by volunteering his time as a board member of the Fortune Society, the pre-eminent prisoner re-entry organization in the U.S. and The Twenty-First Century Foundation, which seeks to advance the welfare of the Black community through strategic and collective grant making, research, and donor services.
Jean holds a BS in Accounting and MA in Political Science, with a concentration in Public Policy and Administration, from CUNY-Brooklyn College.
