Unique People Services’ John G. Hunter Apartments CR/SRO is a 50-beds, service enriched single room occupancy residence for 100% individuals meeting NY/NY criteria. The program became operational on December 26, 2005. The program meets the needs of the serious and persistent mentally ill population. The population served, was a long history of homelessness, requires minimal assistance with self-maintenance and socialization skills, and benefits from an extended stay residence with private living units and on-site support services designed to flexibly meet their individual needs for support and rehabilitation. 

John G. Hunter apartments occupies a six story building containing 50 studio apartments with kitchen/dining room, full bath, activity rooms, laundry room commercial kitchen and dining room, and offices. A large backyard offers residents additional recreational space and a beautiful garden. Which is maintenanced by the residents. 

Our specific goals are:

   • To provide Residential and comprehensive support services designed to meet the physical, social and emotional needs of each resident.

   • To help those whose needs have been neglected or whose circumstances have prevented use of existing services.

   • To promote greater public understanding of the unmet needs of individuals with disabilities.

   • To promote and secure permanent housing for each individual.

Dinner is served daily and breakfast in the weekends, at a normal cost for those who choose not to cook.
