Social Work Interns:

UPS provides a learning experience for the social work interns and conducts quarterly meetings to discuss changes that take place on the Federal, State, and City levels of government regarding social services.  UPS provides information regarding services and gives social work interns an opportunity to reflect and discuss their concerns and issues so that they may develop a greater understanding of the services and the consumers UPS serves.  The quarterly meetings provide the social work interns with support & education, which enhances their skills to work better with UPS consumers.

During the first orientation meeting at UPS, social work interns from various institutions around New York City heard from the CEO, directors and managers from various program sites at the agency.  Presenters gave an overview of their programs and also spoke about the social work skills that are utilized at their sites.  These include clinical skills, community development strategies, advocacy efforts and understanding current and developing research in the field.

In this meeting, Yvette Brissett-André, CEO discussed with the interns the changes in the delivery of health and social services in the United States.
